Our story
A neighbourhood room
for slow mornings
and long dinners.

Sunday Room opened in 2023 in a pre-war shophouse on Lebuh Chulia. We wanted the place we kept looking for in George Town: good coffee early, a proper lunch, and somewhere to stay on with a bottle of wine when the street goes quiet.
The kitchen cooks bistro food with what Penang does well: seafood off the morning boats, greens from the highlands, bread from a baker two streets away. The menu is short and changes when the market does.
Most of our regulars started as neighbours. Pull up a chair.
A day in the room
06:45 to chairs up
06:45
The bread arrives
Sourdough from the baker two streets away, still warm. The croissants are ours: in the oven at five.

07:00
The kitchen comes in
Stock on, eggs cracked, the market list checked against what actually came in.

07:45
The board gets set
Letter by letter, by whoever opens. One plate, one sweet, one pour. Spelling is not guaranteed.
08:00
Doors
The first flat white goes to the same man every morning. He has never once looked at the menu.

11:00
Lunch
Greens from the highlands, fish off the morning boats, a short menu that changes when the market does.

15:00
The slow hours
Cake, cold brew, laptops closed if we can help it. The light comes in sideways through the shutters.

17:00
Candles, corks
The wine fridge opens, the lights come down, the room gets louder. The full kitchen cooks until an hour before close.

21:00
One more glass
Bar snacks, chocolate mousse, the five-foot way still warm from the day. Someone always asks for one more.

23:00
Chairs up
Eleven on Fridays and Saturdays, ten the rest of the week. Tuesday, we sleep in.
Front of house, since day one
